About ENM in DC
Washington DC has one of the oldest and most professionally-flavoured ENM communities in the United States, with continuous activity stretching back to the 1990s. The local scene is shaped by the federal-workforce demographic profile: large concentration of professionals, high educational attainment, careful about discretion, with several long-running recurring meetups that have run continuously for over a decade.
The DC ENM community has strong overlap with the wider mid-Atlantic scene: practitioners commonly participate in events in Baltimore, Northern Virginia, the suburban Maryland counties, and occasionally Philadelphia. Queer-ENM groups are well-developed in the District itself, with several recurring socials specifically for trans, non-binary, and queer-of-colour practitioners. The professional-services side — affirming therapy, family-law specialists, ENM-aware clergy — is unusually well-developed for the size of the city.
Northern Virginia and the suburban Maryland counties — Montgomery, Prince George's, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax — function as part of the same practical community as the District itself. The closer-in suburbs in particular have recurring socials that draw meaningful attendance from across the metro.
