About ENM in Illinois
Illinois — Chicago — has one of the largest and longest-running ENM communities in the Midwest, with continuous activity going back to the 1990s and a current scene textured by the city's neighbourhood structure. Different North Side, South Side, and Near West Side neighbourhoods each have their own recurring socials and discussion groups, and many practitioners participate in two or three.
Chicago's ENM scene is unusually well-integrated with the local queer community and with affirming-care providers in the city's larger health systems. The professional-services side is well-developed: multiple affirming therapy practices, several family-law specialists with explicit ENM-affirming language in their practice descriptions, and a tradition of community-run continuing-education events for clinicians.
Outside Chicago, the Illinois ENM scene narrows: Champaign-Urbana has a university-anchored community, Bloomington-Normal and Springfield each have small recurring groups, and the smaller cities tend to be reachable from Chicago, St. Louis, or Indianapolis depending on geography.
