About ENM in Washington

Washington — Seattle especially — has one of the most established ethical non-monogamy and relationship-anarchy communities in the United States, with continuous activity stretching back to the 1990s. The community is unusually documentation-heavy: many of the influential polyamory writers and educators have lived or worked in the Puget Sound region, and the local culture has produced a steady stream of practice essays, podcasts, and reference material.

Seattle's ENM scene overlaps strongly with the tech industry, with the queer community, and with the regional kink scene; many practitioners participate in two or three of those simultaneously. The relationship-anarchy lineage — the practice of refusing to rank or pre-categorise connections — is more visible here than in most US cities, and several long-running RA-focused groups meet on the Eastside and in the city itself.

Outside Seattle, the community thins but persists: Tacoma, Olympia, Bellingham, the Tri-Cities, and Spokane each have at least one recurring meetup or discussion group, and the wider Pacific Northwest scene is small enough that practitioners often know one another across city lines.
