About ENM in New York
New York hosts the largest and most diverse ethical non-monogamy community on the East Coast, concentrated in New York City but extending up the Hudson Valley, into Long Island, and across to the Capital District. The community is unusually heterogeneous by profession, age, and ethnic background compared to many US ENM scenes, reflecting the city's general demographic shape.
Practically, every borough has at least one recurring ENM-aware social or discussion group, and several of the longest-running queer-polyam-of-colour groups in the country meet here. The professional-services side — affirming therapists, family-law specialists, ENM-experienced clergy and officiants — is well developed in Manhattan and Brooklyn; thinner but real in Queens and the Bronx; and reachable from Westchester and Long Island.
ENM Summit and several smaller professional and educational events happen in New York City each year, drawing practitioners from across the Northeast and beyond. The proximity of large universities and the publishing industry means the local scene has an unusually dense overlap with poly-writers, researchers, and educators.
